the barfields go house hunting

so, drew and i have been house hunting for quite a while now. since august to be exact. needless to say, it's been quite a learning process/adventure. for a while it seemed that for every house we saw, drew found something else that he absolutely cannot have in a house.

so far, here is his list:
linoleum (personally, i'm not a fan of this stuff either, but it can be changed)
wallpaper (see same comment as above)
gas stoves
big back yards (too much mowing)
back yards with trees that shed leaves
carpet
kitchens with microwaves that are not built in (before house hunting, i had no idea that microwaves were ever not built in)
close proximity to anyone that he dislikes
there were so many more, but i forgot them

here is his list of stuff that if it were up to just him, he would like in a house:
a garage with a work bench and cabinets (this is especially funny if you know him at all - he's manly in a watch-sports-and-drink-beer kind of way, not a build-things-with-your-bare-hands kind of way).
a hot tub (clearly he hasn't seen all the icky things that happen in hot tubs - he should really catch up on some episodes of the bachelor)
a deck
big kitchen
it would be built before 1980
i think that's it.

our house if it were up to just me would be:
brand. spanking. new.

i'm trying to convince my daddy to just buy us a lot and build a house for us. so far, not having much luck.

i think you can learn a lot more about a person by house hunting with them than you ever could in pre-marital counseling. i'm just sayin.
